Owerri – The Imo government said it had commenced verification of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the 27 local government areas of the state to give them a new lease of life.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Sir Jude Ejiogu, made this known after a crucial meeting with the 27 Directors of Administration and General Services (DAGS) in the state on Tuesday in Owerri.
He emphasised the readiness of the state government to ensure that Imo people were given a sense of belonging.
He directed the directors to compile and submit names of all IDPs to government to enable it to
take urgent actions.
Ejiogu urged the directors to embark on sensitisation to educate the rural people in various council areas on the need to be cautious during the rainy season.

He said this was to avoid the reoccurrence of what the state witnessed in the previous years, where individuals where sacked from their homes as a result of natural disasters.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Chief R.O. Dike, a director from Orlu Local Government Area commended the SSG for the meeting.
He appealed to the state government to give more attention to the local councils.
He reiterated the directors’ willingness to continue to support the administration of Gov. Rochas Okorocha.(NAN)
