New Delhi – Indian police on Tuesday named Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy, Manish Sisodia as accused in a case of alleged assault on senior most government official of the capital city, officials said.
The charge sheet was filed before a local court in the city and has also named 11 lawmakers of the ruling party as accused.
“In its charge sheet, the police have alleged that Kejriwal, Sisodia and others had criminally conspired to threaten the chief secretary of death or grievous hurt, obstructed him in discharging his public function and caused hurt,” an official said.
“It has also accused the Aam Aadmi Party (common man’s party) leaders of other offences punishable under sections of Indian Penal Code, including wrongfully confining any person, assaulting or using criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty, insulting him to provoke breach of peace and abetment of the offence.”
In February, Delhi Chief Secretary, Anshu Prakash, alleged he was assaulted by two lawmakers from ruling party in presence of Delhi Chief Minister, who had summoned him for talks at his residence on the Delhi government’s ambitious plan to deliver key services to doorsteps of residents.
The Delhi Chief Minister’s Office has categorically rejected the allegations.
Officials said the court has put up the charge sheet for consideration on Aug. 20.
