Abuja-The Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Sadanobu Kusaoke, says 51 Nigerians have so far been granted scholarship for Masters Degree programme in various Japanese universities.
The Japanese envoy disclosed this at the sent-forth programme organised by Japan International Co-operation Agency (JAICA), for the successful candidates.
According to him, the gesture is an initiative of JAICA to assist Nigerian youths achieve their aspiration in life.
He congratulated the students for successfully going through the rigour of the selection process which he described as “very transparent”.
“The objective is to offer Nigerian students an opportunity to study at their Masters Degree level in various Japanese universities,” he said.
He urged the beneficiaries to be worthy ambassadors of Nigeria and respect Japanese law.
Prof. Mohammed Dauda, President Nigeria-Japan Alumni Association (NAIJAA), who appreciated Japanese government for the initiative, explained that the programme would enhance relationship between the two countries.
Dauda, who was represented by Mr Asemota Joseph, the Secretary General of NAIJAA, added that the initiative would put the two nations on effective international relationships.
A representative of the beneficiaries, Mr Raji Sherriff, expressed appreciation to the Japanese government.
Sherriff said it was a great opportunity for them to be selected among others to participate in JICA’s sponsored programme.
“We are committed and determined to give our best in ensuring the objective of this programme is maximally actualised,’’ he said.
