BIRNIWA – The Birniwa Local Government Area in Jigawa on Thursday urged motorcycle mechanics to form an association to enable them to benefit from the council’s development programmes.
Alhaji Tijjani Tafida, the council’s Director, Social and Community Services, gave the advice while meeting with the representatives of the mechanics in Birniwa.
Tafida said the measure would enable the council to register motorcycle mechanics and include them in its development programmes.
“It is desirable to form associations to access support programmes by the council.
“It will also enhance security and ensure proper coordination of the mechanics trade,” he said.
Also speaking, Abdulsalami Abdullahi, a spokesman of the mechanics, said they would expedite action on the process of forming the association in the area.
Meanwhile, the Malammadori Local Government Area has called on the commercial motorcycle operators to use reflective apron while plying their trade.
The council’s Sole Administrator, Alhaji Lawan Abdu, gave the directive at a meeting with members of the motorcycle riders’ association in Malammadori.
Abdu said that the council had distributed reflective jackets to the riders, warning that erring riders would be penalised.
He said the use of jackets would “enhance security and safety of riders on the roads”. (NAN
