Dutse, – The Police Commissioner in Jigawa, Mr Effion Emmanuel Ekit has charged religious leaders to work towards the promotion of peace and security in the state.Ekit made the call during a meeting with religious leaders and other stakeholders on Thursday in Dutse.This is contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu, on Friday in Dutse.He urged religious leaders to educate their followers on the need to be vigilant and provide credible intelligence to the police and security agencies.The CP said the meeting was designed to fast track adoption of proactive security measures at places of worship such as use of metal detectors to screen worshippers, especially during congretuonal prayers and Church services.While calling on the people to pray for peace, Ekit urged residents of the state to foster unity, religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Jigawa State Council of Ulama’u, Jama’atu Nasrul Islam (JNI), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jama’atul Izalatil Bidi’a Wa Ikamatul Sunnah (JIBWIS), Munazzamatu Fityanul Islam (Tijjaniyyah) and Darikatul Qadiriyyah. (NAN)
