Kano – Kano State Government has earmarked N15 billion for the construction of new roads and the completion of ongoing ones across the state next year.
The state Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Alhaji BB Faruq, said this on Saturday after he appeared before the State Assembly’s Committee on Lands and Physical Planning.
The commissioner was at the assembly to defend the budgetary allocation to the ministry in 2017.
According to him, the major focus of the ministry in 2017 is to develop the state, especially the metropolis.
The commissioner said that the government would commence the development eight Metropolitan Local Government Areas of the state.
Faruq said that the ministry would do everything possible to ensure the completion of ongoing roads and other projects under the ministry.
According to him, N5 billion has also earmarked for the construction of many access roads and drains in the city in order to ease movement for the people.
“After the construction of the access roads, streetlights would be provided to beautify the city.”
He further said that the ministry had commenced arrangements to computerise land allocation processes so as to make the administrative work easier.
“Our ministry has redoubled its revenue generation effort compared to previous years,” he said.
