Kano – The Kano State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ali Makoda has charged traders in the state to always maintain a clean environment at their places of business.
The commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Sagir Wali made the call shortly after monitoring the monthly markets sanitation excercise on Friday in Kano.
NAN reports that Makoda, who inspected the Kofar Ruwa car spare parts market in Dala and Sheka market in Kumbotso Local Government Areas, noted that no business activities could thrive in a filthy environment.
He expressed concern over the indiscriminate dumping of refuse and negligence of the traders at the Kofar ruwa market and called on them to desist from the illegal acts or face the wrath of the law.
The Commissioner called on the leadership of the markets to mobilise their members with a view to keeping the markets clean to prevent possible outbreak of diseases.
“We are inviting the leadership and all the unions to meet us so that we discuss on the way out, especially the issue of poor drainages in the market.
“The poor drainages also stand as a threat to health of the people in the area.Any trader found violating the environmental sanitation law will face prosecution through our mobile Court, “he said.
He stressed the need for the traders to always maintain a clean environment for their own good, others as well as to attract costumers.
At Sheka market, the Commissioner gave a warning letter to the management market to address the poor condition of the Abbatoir and chicken sellers units.
While restating the commitment of the state government to rid the environment of all filth, the Commissioner said the government would not fold its arms and allow traders to continue to flaut the sanitation laws.
Makoda urged the residents to always ensure clean environment to avoid possible outbreak of diseases. (NAN)
