Wudil (Kano State) – Kano State University of Science and Technology (KUST), Wudil, has introduced doctorate degree (Ph.D) programme in eight courses, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Alhaji-Musa, has said.
The VC made the disclosure on Wednesday in Kano while briefing newsmen on the 4th convocation ceremony of the university scheduled for Feb. 4.
He said that the doctorate degree programme would be in Agricultural Economics, Crop Science, Geography, Microbiology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.
He said that the institution had already commenced preparation for the take-off of the programmes in 2016/2017 session.
Alhaji-Musa said that the university’s Senate had also approved 12 new undergraduate courses.
He said that all the programmes would commence fully in 2016/2017 academic session.
The VC said that as part of efforts to ensure academic excellence, the university had recruited no fewer than 242 academic staff to enhance teaching and learning.
On the forthcoming combined convocation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor said a total of 3,212 students were expected to graduate.
He said that out of the number, 39 students had first class honour, 698 had second class upper, 1,443 second class lower division, 930 had third class while the remaining 102 had pass.
“The fourth convocation ceremony will be unique as no fewer than 31 students will receive their masters degree in Agricultural Economics, Crop Science, Geography and Microbiology,” he said.
Alhaji-Musa said that three eminent personalities would be conferred with honorary degrees during the convocation.
According to him, the three personalities are, the former civilian governor of the state, late Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II and a renowned educationist, Alhaji Mustapha Ibrahim
