The Katsina state House of Assembly has called on the state government to rehabilitate two dilapidated schools in Sabuwa Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The assembly made the call on Tuesday, during plenary, following a motion moved by Alhaji Ibrahim Danjuma, (APC Sabuwa) representing Sabuwa constituency,
According to Danjuma, the affected schools are the two Government Day Secondary Schools at Sabuwa and Dungun Mu’azu areas in the local government.
He further explained that the call for the rehabilitation of the schools had become necessary due to their current bad condition which, he described as “shameful”.
“When we visited the schools, the condition was so terrible to the extent that students received lessons on
bare floor due to lack of chairs and tables.
“Some of the classes have no roof and the students had to hide somewhere, while receiving lessons during the rainy season.
“This situation has forced people of the area to address me on the issue so that they could attract state government attention and rescue the threatened education of their children.
“As you know, students cannot understand anything in school in the absence of a proper learning environment. Despite the bad situation of their schools, however, the children still go to the school because they are interested in learning .” he said.
He, therefore, called on the government to assist the children in the affected schools for the development of education in the area.
Following deliberations by the lawmakers, the assembly adopted the motion and called on Gov. Aminu Masari to order for the rehabilitation of the schools.
