Argungu – The Wife of Kebbi Governor, Dr Zainab Bagudu, has launched a Skill Acquisition Centre in Gulma, Argungu Local Government Area to train women on various skills to improve their standard of living.
Bagudu told newsmen in Argungu on Friday that 20 women, as maiden set of trainees, would be trained at the centre.
“We need the women to be trained in different skills to be self-reliant and productive members of the society,” she said.
She enjoined women in the state to make good use of the opportunity provided by the state government in various training programmes for socio-economic development of citizens across the state.
“We always have the passion and zeal to engage women in profitable ventures in order for them to be self reliant.
“We want them to fend for themselves, care for their family and be productive members of the society,” she said.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Halima Dikko, said the ministry would give necessary support to women to engage themselves in skills acquisition.
“We are ready to assist women to be self reliant and productive members of the society, especially the widows,” she said.
In his remarks, the Sole Administrator of Argungu Local Government Area, Alhaji Musa Tungulawa, said the council had three acquisition centres for training women on different skills.
According to him, his council would prioritise training of women in the centres.
He also commended the wife of the governor for the initiative, saying that the programme would go a long way in making women to be self reliant and reduce poverty.
