Birnin Kebbi – Kebbi State Government has commenced the purchase of wheat from farmers as part of efforts to encourage commercial production of the agricultural product.
The Chairman of Wheat Farmers Association, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigandu, made this known on Monday in Birnin Kebbi at the distribution ceremony.
Maigandu, who lauded the purchase of the commodity by government from the farmers, said that a bag of the wheat was purchased at the rate of N15, 000.
“The purchase will improve the economic status of farmers and encourage additional production,“ he said.
He said that the state government would purchase 400 tonnes of wheat from farmers, stressing that additional support had been promised to encourage production.
“The determination of the government to put into full use the 600,000 hectares of FADAMA, in addition to loans and provision of seedling and fertiliser will be utilised by the farmers to increase wheat production.“[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, the State Governor, was represented by Alhaji Abdulmumini Kamba, the Speaker of the House Assembly, at the event. (NAN)
