Ilorin – Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, the wife of Kwara Governor, has warned citizens against child molestation and exposure to early pregnancy.
Ahmed made the call on Friday at an event to mark the Children’s Day, organised at the Metropolitan Square in Ilorin.
She urged children to obey their parents and work hard in their schools.
Omolewa particularly appealed to the girl-child to refuse any attempt by anyone to initiate them into sexual activity.
She said “I implore you to keep your chastity until you get married.”
The governor’s wife told the children that they must resist attempt by anyone to destroy their future.
Earlier, the Kwara Governor, represented by the state’s Head of Service, Hajiya Zara Umar, said that the country was facing the challenge of breakdown of social values.
The governor, who spoke on the theme “Protecting the Rights of Child in the Face of Violence and Insecurity: End Child abuse”, noted that
children must be protected against all forms of violence.
He reiterated the resolve of the state government to promote and protect the rights of every citizen, including children. (NAN)
