Ilorin – Kwara State Government has approved Contributory Pension Scheme for Civil Servants who joined service from 1987 to date while those employed before then would remain in the current scheme.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Alhaji Babatunde Ajeigbe, announced this after State Executive Council Meeting in Ilorin on Wednesday.
Ajeigbe explained that this was sequel to the realisation that the revenue base of the state could no longer sustain the old pension scheme.
He said this was to conserve fund for the government and make payment of pension and gratuity easy for the civil servants.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Dr Muideen Akorede, said the meeting also took a decision on the white paper report on the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Share/Tsragi communal clash.
According to him, the report adopted by the state cabinet covered several other previous clashes between the two communities.
Akorede said the state executive mandated Edu and Irepodun local governments to bear the cost of compensating victims of the clashes.
According to him, the families of the dead, those who lost property and those displaced should benefit from the compensation.
The council also approved the construction of three-phase Diamond Split Underpass at Gerin Alimi roundabout in Ilorin as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion in the area.
Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya, said the project was expected to be completed in 18 months.
Yahaya said the first phase of the project will cost N2.9billion, adding that the Under-Pass Project would be financed from the N10billion n the state government was sourcing from the bond market.
The commissioner added that the completed project would ease traffic movement and add to the aesthetic of the area.
He said the council also approved the dualisation of Kulende-Oyun-Kwara State Polytechnic-Oke-Ose-UITH road and the Ita Alamu-Michael Imoudu-Ganmo-Afon junction roads.
Yahaya explained that although they were federal government roads, the state government decided to dualise them for the benefit of the people of the state.
“In line with our policy to develop roads to reduce the pain and stress of our people, the state government resolved to develop the roads and await federal government’s reimbursement”, he added. (NAN)
