Bokkos (Plateau) – Plateau Governor Simon Lalong, on Saturday pledged to deliver “standard and stable education” to Plateau as part of measures to enhance its growth.
The governor made the pledge in Bokkos, at the maiden convocation of Plateau State University (PLASU).
“The change mantra of the All Progressives Congress (APC) places premium on education; this is because we share the Late President Nelson Mandela’s philosophy that education is the most powerful weapon leaders can use to change the World.
“We decided to pay special attention to this particular institution because we wanted to restore hope to the students, who had suffered the psychological trauma of its closure and were facing the threat of a shattered future,
“ The first set of students of PLASU were in some endless anxiety; so when we came in, we felt a need to stabilise the situation and restore hope,” he said.
Lalong thanked the NUC for its clearance, pointing out that their action was the fore-runner to the goodwill enjoyed from TETFUND, under the Leadership of Prof. Elias Bogoro.
“Today, I am a very happy man; we have broken the jinx and are all witness to this first convocation, 12 years after the school was established,” he said.
The governor commended Sen. Joshua Dariye who, as then Plateau governor, established the school, and declared that history would remember him as one who saw the need for such institution to meet the educational needs of Plateau people.
The Governor commended the management and staff of the university for their commitment and diligence, and “especially for effective management of very limited resources”.
