Lagos – The Lagos State Government (LASG) said that it would initiate a greener environment programme for government offices across the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by the State Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Samuel Adejare, and made available to journalists on Wednesday.
It said that the ministry and the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) would jointly implement the programme.
It quoted Adejare to have directed LASPARK to establish more botanical gardens and functional horticultural nurseries across government offices during a familiarization tour of the parastatals under the ministry.
The statement said that beautification of government buildings was in line with the resolve of the present administration’s plan to uphold environmental achievements of past administration.
“Beautification of government buildings and structures is in line with the efforts of the present administration to build on the achievements of the past government.
“I commend the agency for its efforts at reinventing the lost glory of the state, which was hitherto adorned with beautiful flowers and trees.
“I want to also implore the agency to create a rose garden, specifically at the Lagos House in Alausa,’’ he said in the statement.

It also said that the beautification of the state by the agency had made Lagos an envy of other states in the federation.
The statement also quoted Dr Titi Anibaba, the Managing Director of the agency, as assuring the commissioner that work on the proposed metropolitan park would soon begin.
Anibaba said in the statement that LASPARK was ready to produce a greening master plan for the state.
“LASPARK is on the verge of producing a greening master plan for the whole state, which will cover five years.
“The agency will soon begin work on the proposed metropolitan park to be located in Ibeju Lekki.
“The park will have a botanical garden among other features,’’ she said in the statement.
The statement also quoted Anibaba as saying that the agency currently had two functional nurseries located at Agege and Erinkorodo in Ikorodu North of the state. (NAN)
