ABUJA – A member of the House of Representatives, Jones Onyereri (PDP-Imo), has called on Nigerians to appreciate the role of the legislature in entrenching good governance and democratic values in the country.
Onyereri told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja that the seventh National Assembly had provided balanced opportunities through deliberations crucial in protecting the interest of Nigerians. “Because the opposition parties are there to make their inputs, the majority is there to make their input too, so there will be a balance of opinion,’’Onyereri said.
According to him, the opposition will always counter any clause from the beginning that usually lead to robust debate to the end.
“So, whatever that has come out as a law or motion has always been to the best interest of the Nigerian people,’’he said.
The lawmaker, who commended the Federal Government’s efforts in providing infrastructure and social services, urged Nigerians to support the fight against insurgency.
He also canvassed for their support in ensuring a peaceful conduct of the 2015 elections, adding that democracy remained the best form of government that brings about rapid development in a country.(NAN)
