Kafin-Hausa (Jigawa)- The Kafin-Hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa on Saturday said it targeted more than 80, 000 children for vaccination against polio in the ongoing immunisation.
The Manager, National Programme on Immunisation (NPI) in the area, Alhaji Abdullahi Sarawa, said this while inspecting the exercise in Kafin-Hausa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the January round of immunisation kicked off on Saturday in the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
Sarawa said that the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) had supplied 89, 000 doses of Oral Polio Vaccines (OPV) for the smooth conduct of the exercise in the area.

He explained that some 253 health personnel were deployed to the 11 wards in the area for the exercise.
“The children will be immunised against polio and other child-killer diseases between Jan. 24 and 27,’’ he said.
According to him, the council is conducting a stakeholders meeting to enhance participation in the exercise.
Also speaking, Malam Muhammad Hassan, the Director, Water and Sanitation, said the council had provided 162 cartons of candies to woo children to participate in the immunisation.
Hassan said the council had also engaged community and religious leaders to mobilise participation in the exercise and urged parents and guardians to cooperate with the health workers. (NAN)
