ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – From May 29, the President-elect and Vice-President-elect are to be respectively known and addressed as Muhammadu Buhari, President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mallam Garba Shehu, head of Buhari’s media team and made available to Sundiata Post on Sunday. Buhari, a retired major-general of the Nigerian Army and former head of state, has previously been addressed as General Buhari.

It will be recalled that on assumption of office as civilian president on May 29, 1999, Olusegun Obasanjo, also a General and former military head of State, dropped the title of General and opted to be addressed as Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
