YENAGOA (Sundiata Post) – Suspected high profile kidnapper, John Lyon Eke, has pleaded not guilty to a kidnap and other charges brought against him before a Bayelsa State High Court sitting in Yenagoa.
Lyon and his suspected accomplice, Charles Angese, are accused of kidnapping bankers, businessmen and prominent Bayalsans.
Both suspects pleaded not guilty to a 14-count charge of kidnapping, armed robbery and criminal felony brought against them.
In view of the plea, the prosecution counsel, Apulu Iyabosa, who is also Bayelsa State Director of Public Prosecution, said the briefs of the case was served on the defendant counsel and prayed for a trial date.
Counsel to the defendants, Francis Gbaionna said he has not received the statement of charges from the lawyer for the prosecution saying the he has no objection to the application.
Ruling on the issue, the presiding judge, Justice Inekade Eradiri ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Okaka Correctional Centre and adjourned the case for hearing on the 5th and 21st of December, 2022.
