Malammadori (Jigawa) – The Malammadori Local Government Council of Jigawa on Thursday said it had adopted effective environment friendly programmes to enhance sanitation in the area.
Alhaji Yusuf Muhammad, the Director, Water and Sanitation in the council, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Malammadori, Jigawa.
Muhammad said that the council had embarked on massive waste and drain clearance to keep the environment clean.
He said that the council had encouraged and mobilised youth volunteer groups to participate in waste clearance in rural communities.
The director said that the council had engaged about 50 ad hoc environmental workers to improve sanitation at government offices, departments, residential areas, markets and other strategic locations.
He added that the council had deployed 21 sanitary inspectors to Malammadori, Garin-Gabas and other major towns in the area to ensure clean environment.
He said that the personnel were mandated to inspect residential homes, markets, offices and eateries to ensure that they conform to the best sanitation standard.
“The council accorded priority to environmental activities to promote personal hygiene and enhance public health services,” he said.

Muhammad reiterated the council’s commitment to support community organisations and volunteer groups engaging in sanitation activities.
He added that the council had adopted effective measures to promote proper waste management and good sanitation habits at the grassroots.
Muhammad urged the people to desist from indiscriminate dumping of waste on water ways and keep their environment clean. (NAN)
