ABUJA – A Senior Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 2 Abuja, on Tuesday jailed one Mutaka Dauda six months for stealing a car.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr Aliyu Shafa, sentenced Dauda without an option of fine, after he admitted committing the offence
“The court has listened to your confessional statements and noticed that such are not strong enough to warrant you to steal, therefore the sentence is given without option.
“This also should be a lesson to you and others like you, who hide under the pretext of ‘hardship’ to commit crimes.’’
Shafa discharged the second accused, Malak Bukar and the third accused, Ibrahim Bulama for want of evidence to prove they actually took part in the crime.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Usman Owuna had told the court that sometime in November, Mr Ngbede Edoh of Jabi District, Abuja, reported the matter at the Mabushi Police Station.
He said that the complainant parked his Nissan Sunny car at his residence in Kagini area from where the accused stole it.
Owuna informed the court that the car was returned to the owner after it was recovered from the accused.
He informed the court that these offences contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code Law
The convict however prayed the court to be lenient on him.
“It is the Jos crisis that is responsible for this; my parents have both been killed. I have to take charge of my younger siblings and things have been tough.
“If I am shown mercy, I promise to go back to my village and look for more honourable means to make a living.’’ (NAN)
