Man remanded for theft of foodstuffs, gas cylinder

Ibadan –   An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Wednesday ordered the remand of one Peter Chinedu, 27, at Agodi Prison, who admitted stealing foodstuffs and gas cylinder.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Taiwo Oladiran, who ordered the remand of Chinedu, adjourned the case until Sept. 7, for review of facts and sentencing.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that when Chinedu was asked by the court why he stole, he said that he was hungry.
Oladiran asked him if it was also hunger that made him to steal the cylinder as well.

Chinedu of no fixed address was docked on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. James Oriola, told the court that Chinedu and others at large stole the gas cylinder and foodstuffs worth N15,000, property of Mrs Faosat Olaide of Adungbe village, via Idi- Ayunre, Ibadan.

He said the offences were committed on Sept. 5, at about 12:10p.m. at Adungbe village.

Oriola said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 383 and punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo State 2000. (NAN)
