Abuja – A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 31-year-old man, Friday Benjamin, to five months imprisonment, docked on a two-count charge bordering on trespass and theft.
The court also ordered that the convict, who admitted committing the offences, should be given seven strokes of the cane.
The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, however, gave the convict N 50,000 option of fine and warned him to desist from committing crime in future.
Benjamin a resident of Dogon-Gada, Lokogoma, Abuja was convicted on charges of criminal trespass and theft.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Fidelix Ogbobe, told the court that one Linus David of Lokogoma, Abuja, reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on July 17.
Ogbobe alleged that Benjamin criminally trespassed into the complainant’s house on July 16 and stole his Bajaj motorcycle, valued at N 105, 000.
He said when e Benjamin tried to escape with the motorcycle, vigilance group in the area intercepted him.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
