Lagos – A 42-year-old man, Bolaji Majekodunmi, was on Thursday docked at a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly obtaining N3.9 million under false pretences.
Majekodunmi, who resides at No. 8, Semidara Community , Abeokuta in Ogun, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.
The Prosecutor, Insp Roman Unuigbe, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offences on June 26, 2014, at Ikotun area of Lagos State.
Unuigbe alleged that Majekodunmi obtained N3.9 million from the complainant, Suleman Taofik, under the pretext of investing the said amount in an oil business.
He told the court that after some time, the complainant discovered that the accused was reluctant in letting him to know about the oil business plan.

The complainant became suspicious and demanded a refund of his money, the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor said that as all efforts by the complainant to retrieve his money from the accused proved unsuccessful, he reported the case to the police who arrested the accused.
He said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 312 prescribes 15 years’ imprisonment for any convicted person.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Erinle, granted the accused bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Sept. 30 for trial. (NAN)
