The future Manchester legend started playing football at the age of five. His father worked as a volunteer for the Wallsend Boys Club. It was that team that became the footballer’s first club. He played in it on Saturday evenings. While the boy was 12, he moved to another city team, the Burnside High School. His performances were so successful that he was even called up to the national youth team. But note that he was playing in the forward position at that time on the field. Such obscure details are essential watching football and especially making bets at Fonbet (review is available here: https://bookmaker-ratings.com/review/fonbet-review/) or other bookmaker services. Not knowing the position change of a specific player might cost a loss in games or bets. Managers find the perfect place for the players in the field only with dedication and time.
West Ham United
After Michael Carrick finished his high school education in 1997, he was followed by a queue of clubs that wanted to lure young talent to their side. The handiest in this regard are representatives of West Ham, who have long followed him. As a result, starting in 1998, the boy began to train at the local youth academy. At the same time, he was transferred to the midfield. A year later, the young player made his debut as an adult. However, for the next three months, he was on loan. The 2000/2001 season was his first full loan spell at West Ham. He missed most of the following year through injury. Furthermore, the club was relegated at the end of the season. Despite several reasonable offers from other English teams, he still decided to stay.
Tottenham Hotspur
In 2004, West Ham United sold the midfielder to Tottenham for 2.75 million pounds. At the new team, he spent two seasons that can be called quite successful for him. At the club, there were many new players and good coaches, thanks to which the team showed an excellent game. One of its leaders was Michael Carrick. The footballer, acting under the guidance of coach Maarten Jol, became very famous not only in his native England but also beyond.
Manchester United
Many clubs showed interest in the player in 2006. The most active among them was Manchester United. Tottenham’s management could not refuse the £14million offered for the player. At the time, Michael Carrick became the fifth most expensive Red Devils player in history. The midfielder started wearing his new team’s jersey for the first time on 26 August in a game against Charlton, which ended in a confident 3-0 win. In his first year at United, the player featured in almost every game. On 13 January 2007, Michael scored the first goal for Manchester in a home game against Aston Villa. He has since become an essential component of Alex Ferguson’s tactical set-up, so it was no surprise when the club offered him a five-year contract extension in 2008. The player happily agreed.
On 21 May 2008, he triumphed in the Champions League with his club. In the final game against Chelsea, Michael Carrick played the full 90 minutes of extra time and scored his penalty.
Since then, he stayed in the club until the 2017-2018 season, played under another four managers, and scored 17 goals in 316 appearances in Premier League. Michael Carrick is one of the most decorated English players: he triumphed five times in EPL, won every domestic cup, and has Champions League and Europa League titles.
He remained one of the club’s irreplaceable players until the end of his career. He spent 693 games in all his teams in which he scored 32 goals.
National team
The midfielder first played as a national team player in a friendly during a tour of the USA in 2005. The English international then included him in the squad as the base midfielder. Michael Carrick performed well on that tour and then took part in the World Cup in Germany the following year. Later, despite his demonstrated stability and high level of play in Manchester City, the mentors of the country’s leading team ignored him and often did not call him up. Many experts attribute this to the very high level of competition and the availability of higher-class players. Be that as it may, the footballer has played 34 games for England throughout his career, but he was not noted for scoring goals.
