Washington – A U.S. National Guard cargo plane on Wednesday crashed near an airport outside Savannah, Georgia, the Pentagon said.
A U.S. Air Force spokeswoman confirmed that the C-130, a heavy lift turboprop plane, crashed near Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, but had no information about how many people were on board or casualty reports.
The Georgia Air National Guard 165th Airlift Wing is based at the airport.
The Chatham Emergency Management Agency urged people to avoid the area around the crash.
The crash occurred shortly before noon at a road intersection between the airport and the Savannah River which is near the South Carolina state line. (dpa/NAN)
