Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has officially ended the nine-year marriage between Aishat and Mohammed, citing lack of love and physical abuse as grounds for dissolution.
Aishat, the petitioner, revealed that she initially met Mohammed on Facebook where he portrayed himself as a responsible and easygoing gentleman. However, after marriage, she discovered his abusive nature.
According to Aishat, Mohammed neglected his responsibilities at home and frequently subjected her to physical violence, even in the presence of their children and neighbors. She decided to leave him due to his lack of love and ongoing harassment.
In response, Mohammed denied the accusations of severe beatings but admitted to slapping Aishat when provoked.
After hearing both sides, the court acknowledged that the couple’s marriage had irretrievably broken down and granted their divorce. Custody of the children was awarded to Aishat, with Mohammed directed to provide financial support for their welfare, including education and healthcare.
Additionally, the court issued a restraining order preventing Mohammed from threatening or interfering with Aishat’s private life.
