Lagos – The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) said on Monday that it was collaborating with other agencies in the sector towards a successful safety audit by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
Mr Sam Adurogboye, the NCAA’s General Manager, Public Relations, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos ahead of the audit scheduled for March.
NAN reports that Nigeria performed excellently in the nine-day audit conducted on the nation’s aviation security system by ICAO international auditors in June 2015.
Adurogboye said the NCAA was working with other agencies towards sustaining the achievements recorded so far in the sector.
According to him, other agencies like the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), will also be audited.
He said: “ICAO inspectors are not coming to ensure that you fail. They write to you and give you a checklist of what they expect you to have met to a certain percentage during the audit.
“So the whole system is going to be checked. We have a special committee inaugurated by the Director General of NCAA which comprises representatives from the various agencies.
“The committee has been meeting regularly to ensure that all the open items in the checklist are adequately addressed before the audit.

“The interest of ICAO is that you should put the right things in place in order to guarantee safety.’’
Adurogboye said on its part, the NCAA had embarked on training and retraining of its personnel on critical safety areas in line with ICAO directive.
“The ICAO requirement is that you must have skilled personnel in sufficient number and that is what the NCAA is doing right now.’’ (NAN)
