Dutse – The Speaker, Jigawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Idris Garba, has donated N1 million to 105 candidates to purchase scratch cards to register for the 2016 November/December NECO examination.
Alhaji Sani Sarki, the speaker’s local education committee chairman in his constituency, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.
Sarki said that 70 male and 30 female candidates from Jahun Local Government Area of the state benefitted from the donation.
NAN reports that Garba (APC) represents Jahun Constituency in the state assembly.
Sarki said that the gesture which would enable the beneficiaries register for the examination was part of the speaker’s efforts to develop education at the grassroots.
He said it was also to ensure that the students were punctual at their schools for lessons and boost literacy level of youths in the area.
“Let me categorically say that education is the number one priority of the speaker and he will continue to ensure its development at all levels in the state,’’ he said.
Sarki, however, urged the beneficiaries to study hard and pass the examination in good grades and complement the investment made on them by the lawmaker.
He also advised parents to complement government’s and other philanthropists’ efforts by enrolling their children in schools. (NAN)
