WELLINGTON – A New Zealand woman was fined 1,000 dollars on Friday in Wellington for giving a boy alcohol on his ninth birthday at Skate Park in Hamilton in January.
The incident provoked outrage after a video of the boy with the can in his hand was uploaded to the social media.
David Ruth, a Judge at Hamilton District Court, said the boy was at the park with a 12-year-old friend to celebrate his birthday.
He said he saw three adults in their 20s drinking premixed bourbon and cola, and asked for some, which they gave him.
David said the boy could have died from the alcohol.
The 12-year-old girl who was with the boy at the park told police that at a stage the boy was barking. (dpa/NAN)
