ABUJA – The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Board on Thursday in Abuja banned two of its members, Yusuf Ahmed and Chris Green, from footballing activities for one year and six months respectively.
According to a communiqué of the association’s board meeting, issued by a member of the board, Emeka Inyama, the two members were banned for engaging in anti-board activities.
“Ahmed was suspended from the Executive Committee and banned from all football –related activities for one year, pending the ratification of the General Assembly.
“This is for reasons of glaring anti-Board activities, including facilitating and participating in an unauthorised gathering in Abuja, and a case of forgery to unilaterally alter the Board’s decision on tenure of management staff.
“Also, Green was suspended from the Board and banned from all football–related activities for six months, pending the ratification of the General Assembly.
“His suspension is also for reasons of glaring anti-Board activities, including participating in an unauthorised gathering in Abuja and giving media interviews which tended to put the NFA and Nigerian football in bad light,’’ it said. [eap_ad_1] The communiqué stated that the decisions were in line with Article 34 (m) and Article 37 (1 & 5) of the NFA Statutes.
It added that the board would further investigate a similar case of anti-Board activities against another member, Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande.
“Having admitted presence at the unauthorised gathering and with his explanations and due apologies, the Board decided to further investigate a similar case of anti-Board activities against another member, Yahaya-Kwande,’’ the communiqué said.
It said all the members involved were confronted with the accusations and given ample opportunity to defend themselves
The communiqué also added that the secretariat would conclude the details of Stephen Keshi’s contract and signing as Super Eagles’ head coach by next week.
“Having received a written expression of interest from Stephen Keshi to continue as Super Eagles’ coach, the Board mandated the Secretariat to conclude the details of his contract and signing by next week.
“This is to ensure that he can resume work ahead of the fast-approaching 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series,’’ it said.
The communiqué added that the Board received the report of the Effiong Johnson–led sub-committee set up to review lengthy bans on prominent members of the Nigerian football family.
It said that a decision on the report would be taken at the next Board meeting.
Taiwo Ogunjobi, Rumson Baribote, Olaleye Adepoju, Jarrett Tenebe and Harrison Jalla were banned for different number of years for various offences.
The other banned Nigerian football members are Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, Chikelue Iloanusi and Olajide Fashikun.
The communiqué said the Board endorsed the approval by the Acting Chairman, Mike Umeh, for payment of monies owed the late Assistant Coach of the under-20 women’s national team, Chris Nwaehi.(NAN)
