A non-governmental organization (NGO), Centre For Reform Education Initiative (CREI), has applauded the doggedness and commitment of Governor Willie Obiano, of Anambra state, in tackling security related problems in the state.
According to the organisation,”Those who are familiar with Anambra State must be aware that insecurity had always been a cog in the wheel of progress of the state, especially in Onitsha, its commercial nerve city”
CREI, in a press statement signed by its Executive Director, Hon. Chinwe Ugwu, made available to newsmen yesterday in Enugu, noted that “Obiano’s first courageous act of inaugurating a Joint Task Force on Security which he later named Operation Kpochapu aimed at saving Anambarians from criminals, is worthy of praise”. Ugwu, explained that the NGO which was established in 2005 as an apostle of good governance, is also committed in helping government at all levels addressed the numerous challenges of human capital development in the country. [eap_ad_1] “This decision was applauded even by his perceived critics as a visionary step that completely situated the perception of the role of the governor as the chief security officer of the state whose top priority should be the security of lives and property of the citizens.
“Besides, his recent convocation of an all-important security summit where an Israeli security expert, Moshe Keinan, led discussions on security consciousness signalled his single-mindedness in pursuit of the goal of riding Anambra State of hoodlums and other bad elements.
“The Banker turned politician did not end there, he followed it up with loads of tough-pronouncements and the provision of modern crime fighting equipment to the state police command and other security agencies in the state. “It is also on recorded that as a result of the governors,s total commitment in ridding the state of criminals, today, scores of kidnappers are singing different tunes in the various police cells in the state”.
“Even though, CREI is not trying to blow the trumpet of Obiano, but suffice it to say that before the present administration came on-board, visitors were always scared and sceptical going to Anambra as a result of the prevalence rate of kidnapping in the state”.
“But today, with Operation Kpochapu, most of the criminals, especially kidnap kingpins, have fled Anambra state”.
Ugwu noted that since no nation, be it developed or developing, can record any meaningful feat in an unsecured environment, there is need for Anambarians, to throw their weight behind Obiano, in his quest of making the state the 1st Choice Investment Destination and a hub for industrialization and commercial activities in Nigeria.
The NGO, further avered that with adequate security in the state,”Anambra can create a socially stable, business friendly environment that will attract both local and foreign investors.
