Sokoto – The Community Awareness Development Initiative (CADI), an NGO, has embarked on community sensitisation on importance of immunisation, reproductive health and the dangers of Vestico Virgina Fistula (VVF) in Sokoto state.
Addressing 80 Ward Development Committee (WDC) members from Gwadabawa Local Government Area in Cimmola village on Friday, CADI Coordinator, Alhaji Sani Umar-Jabbi, called for increased community involvement on health policies.
Umar-Jabbi said CADI organised town hall meetings at Chimmola, Tsaki, Gandhi, Dabagin Ardo, Achida, Gangs and Gidan Madi communities an initiative to educate people on various health programmes aimed uplifting people lives.
The coordinator, who said that the NGO partnered with Save Million Lives Initiative and other organisations on community awareness, emphasised the need for more collaboration between stakeholders facilitate health coverage.
Umar-Jabbi, who is also the Sarkin-Yakin Gagi and District Head of Gagi, enjoined people to access health facilities available in their areas.
The district head also urged health workers to live up to the expectation of the people on healthcare delivery.
He cautioned husbands against preventing their wives from accessing anti-natal care and other immunisations on whatever grounds and advised women to patronise health centress for child birth and other medications.
According him, prolong labour remains the major cause of VVF based on experts investigations and urged Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and WDCs to intensify sensitisations.
The Director of Advocacy and Mobilization in Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Alhaji Bello Balarabe, said adequate medication arrangements and facilities were provided by government at levels.
Balarabe enjoined people to shun away traditional beliefs on health issues and always consult relevant officials and health workers on all cases stressing that all diseases have different preventions and management ways.
Responding on behalf of WDC chairmen, Malam Ma’azu Illewa, assured more commitments on supporting health programmes and appealed for more encouragement.
The District Head of Chimmola, Alhaji Ahmad Mansur commended CADI for initiative and assured more support to ensure success of all government policies. (NAN)
