Minna -The Niger Government on Wednesday said that it would establish tanker and trailer parks in Minna, Suleja, Tafa and Tegina areas of the state.
Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger made the disclosure at a symposium on indiscriminate parking and traffic rules violation in Minna.
He said that the parks would reduce the obstruction caused by indiscriminate parking and give drivers a safe haven to rest in the course of their journeys.
“The proposed parks will have modern facilities like maintenance workshops, restaurants and guest houses. These locations are known for their patronage by tanker and trailers drivers,” he said.
Bello, who was represented by Alhaji Umar Shehu, Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Transport, said the project would be financed through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) on a build, operate and transfer basis.
The governor said that a computerised vehicle inspection centre would also be established by the state to ensure the safety of vehicles moving across the state.
“Motor vehicle inspection, which is the most popular of motor vehicle administration functions across the world, has moved from era of manual inspection to automated vehicle inspection system,’’ he said.
Bello said that the computerised vehicle inspection centre, which would also be through PPP, was aimed at reducing road traffic crashes in the state.
He said that the government would prioritise Motor Vehicle Administration through adequate funding, provision of equipment and manpower development.
