Minna, Feb. 24, 2017 (NAN) The Niger Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Development on Friday said that it had dissolved the executives of 28 sports associations under the ministry.
Malam Mamman Musa, its commissioner, announced this in Minna during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Musa said that the associations were directed to hold stakeholders’ meetings and conduct elections within two weeks.
“A decision was taken by management this morning to dissolve the executives of our various sports associations,’’ he said.
Musa said that the associations were also advised to follow the guidelines of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, to conduct their activities.
The Commissioner said that the sports associations included basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, athletics, tennis, boxing, swimming, kick-boxing, kungfu, karate, wrestling, squash and judo.
He said others were: fives, cycling, baseball and soft ball, weightlifting, badminton, golf, taekwondo, shooting, table tennis, chess, scrabble, cricket, power lifting and traditional sports.
