Abuja – The Nile University of Nigeria (NUN) is to partner with stakeholders in the sports sector to host the 7th edition of Nigerian Private Universities Games (NPUGA).
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Huseyin Sert, said this in Abuja on Thursday at a news conference.
He said the games would kick off on Dec. 13.
Serts said 30 out of 68 private universities would participate in the games, slated to end on Dec. 21.
He said the university would also partner with stakeholders in culture, tourism and its host community, to host the institution’s cultural festival alongside the games.
The vice chancellor added that NPUGA was a biennial event hosted by selected universities, noting that the aim was to identify and reward exceptional talents.
He said the games were also meant to foster unity and the spirit of sportsmanship among youths.
He explained that “the 7th edition of the games would be more colourful, with the introduction of the institution’s cultural festival.
“The university embarked on massive rehabilitation of existing infrastructure and provision of new ones, specially for the NPUGA games.
“The local organising committee for NPUGA is set to ensure smooth running and wonderful games’ experience for participants and spectators.”
According to him, the event promises lots of fun, medals, games and cultural displays by participating countries, ranging from music, dance, attire, foods, snacks, drinks and artefacts.
The vice chancellor said guests would be entertained by some of the most outstanding cultural troupes that the FCT and the Nigerian traditional music could offer.
“There will also be display of arts and craft, graphics and calligraphic designs from friendly countries.
“Our aim as an institution is to provide strong and quality tertiary education to Nigerians and none Nigerians alike.
“We also want to make Nigeria the centre of excellence in science, technology, sports and culture, as well as to produce graduates that are sensitive, tolerant, confident and enterprising.”
