Abuja – Mrs Uju Hassan-Baba, Executive Secretary, Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), has said that it is important to work within legal frameworks when it concerns investment issues.
Hassan-Baba made the statement in Abuja on Friday when a delegation of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation paid her a visit.
“Our people in Diaspora are appreciating why it is important to work within the legal framework, investment issues are very delicate and it is important that it is processed through backing of rule of law.
“Their coming here has highlighted the need for those in Diaspora to work with the commission so that the investment handled in Nigeria are maintained,’’ she said.
Hassan-Baba said the commission would enter into partnership with the organisation, adding that it would be solidified through the signing of Memorandum of Understanding.
She said the members of the organisation would project Nigeria positively in their various countries which would kick-start the investment drive.
Earlier, Dr George Manuwuike, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the organisation, noted different areas of investment available to the Diaspora community, such as education and infrastructure development.
Manuwuike added that another area of interest to the organisation was housing, saying that the Diaspora had the wherewithal to assist in these major areas that had become major concerns to the Federal Government.
“You know that our steel plants are moribund, specially, the Ajaokuta Steel plant, is coming into play all the time and we have investors that are willing to invest in these core areas,’’ he said. (NAN)
