Abuja – The Director-General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Mike Omeri, has congratulated Nigerians, particularly the Golden Eaglets, on their victory as champions in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
This is contained in a statement by Mr Paul Odenyi, NOA Assistant Director Press, in Abuja on Monday.
Omeri commended the team for a job well done, and hailed the commitment, vitality and vigour displayed by the Eaglets on their way to victory.
He said that their represented the mood of patriots and desire of citizens for a peaceful and united country.
The director-general said the Eaglets were determined to win the trophy and gave all they have to achieve the dream.
“The Eaglets were undeterred in their determination to rise above all challenges and win the trophy.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“Their victory, over all the big names in world football, is a clear message that Nigerian football is on the rise again,’’ Omeri said.
Omeri recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari as military Head of State christened the team `Golden Eaglets’.
“The fifth world title coming when the president is in power again as a civilian president confirms that the team `Golden Eaglets’ is indeed super.’’
Omeri implored Nigerians to celebrate the victory of the Eaglets despite the challenges bedevilling the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Golden Eaglets clinched the first gold medal at the maiden Under-17 World Cup in Beijing, China in 1985.
The team has repeated the same feat four times having successfully defended and retained the title which it won in 2013. (NAN)
