Gusau – The National Population Commission (NPC) on Wednesday decried low enrollment in vital registration in Zamfara.
The Director of the Commission in the state, Alhaji Abubakar Maradun, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau.
Maradun attributed the poor enrollment to shortage of human resources, land mass, low awareness and illiteracy among the public in the state.
“These factors affected vital registration. We have only one vital registration officer in each of the 14 local government areas of the state despite problem of large areas to cover.”[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He said lack of awareness on the importance of the registration, particularly in rural areas, was a major challenge and called on the state government to fund the exercise.
Maradun also called on state and local government areas to support the commission with other logistics to enabkle it cover the state.NAN)
