Pankshin (Plateau) – The Pankshin Local Government of Plateau on Monday gave commercial motorcycle operators two weeks to obtain the number plates or face its wrath.
Mr Stephen Jings, the council’s boss, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Pankshin that the directive became imperative for several reasons ranging from insecurity to revenue drive.
Jings decried the situation whereby about 90 per cent of the motorcycles in the council were operating without number plates.
“This situation has not only put our citizens at risk of infiltration by criminals and dangerous elements as well as jeopardise the security of the council.
“It is known fact that because most of these motorcycles are not registered, they are easily stolen by bad elements who come in to the council for just that unscrupulous act, ‘’ he said.
Jing said he had directed the council information office to place announcement on radio, giving the motorcyclists two weeks grace beginning from Nov. 16.
According to him, the motorcyclists should endeavour to obtain a form and register with its revenue office at N1,000 as a yard stick for embarking on any commercial activity in the area.
“It should be noted at the expiration of the two weeks, a task force shall be put in place to ensure compliance.’’

The council boss further explained that the decision was due to the council’s desire to boost its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), to meet its obligations to the citizens of Pankshin.
He explained that the council was ready to block all revenue loopholes, to boost its base. (NAN)
