Utulu-Uku (Delta) – Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta has urged parents to build good foundation for their children based on the teachings of God.
The governor made the call on Tuesday at the birthday and thanksgiving ceremony of Mrs Amaechi Mrakpor, a member representing Aniocha/Oshimili constituency in the Federal House of Representatives.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event which took place at Ubulu-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta was also used to dedicate King Jesus & I Ministry’s Covenant Alter of Testimony built by Mrakpor.
The governor said that instilling in the children the fear of God would make the future generations desist from engaging in actions inimical to the society.
He said “as parents, let us learn to build a good foundation for our children, foundation based on the teachings of God, foundation that will last forever.
“The only way to build a lasting peace is for our parents to return to God and with that, we build a better future for our family, Delta and for Nigeria.’’
Okowa said building an alter for God was a very good thing, adding that it would position the individuals to serve God.
He added that the alter would constantly remind the people of their responsibilities to God and to the people.
In his contribution, the Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, congratulated Mrakpor and urged politicians to make the society a better place by being Godly in their activities.

Dogara, who was Special Guest at the occasion, said Nigeria would be a better country if people intensified efforts to pray for the leaders.
He said “if Delta is to be exalted, if Nigeria is to be exalted, it will be on account of prayers.
“If you pray for your governor and national leaders for righteousness to reign in the affairs of the state and the nation, it will reflect on the citizens.
“We need proper moral upbringing of our children, this is because these are uncommon times and when we hear of the uncommon happenings, our hearts will begin to fail us.
“All we need is prayer and that is why covenant alter like this one is very necessary in the life of the nation.’’
Arch-Bishop, God-Do-Well Avwomakpa, the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), said it was necessary to teach children the words of God to discourage them from evil ways.
Avwomakpa, who delivered a sermon, said “if as parents, we do not teach the children, they may not know what angers God.’’
Mrakpor, however, appreciated all who attended the ceremony, saying that the triple celebrations were borne out of the need to celebrate God’s goodness to her, members of her family and her constituency. (NAN)
