Akure – Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Mr Jide Adejuyigbe, on Tuesday said the state government had concluded plans to decorate Sunday Olowoniyi that won medals at the Special Olympics.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the second edition of the Special Olympics took place in Los Angeles between July 25 and Aug. 2.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Olowoniyi won gold in both singles and doubles events before clinching bronze in the mixed double event.
Adejuyigbe told NAN in Akure that plans were underway to host him and appreciate him because he had made Nigeria and the state proud at the event.
“He is our hero; we are planning a little state reception for him. We want people to know that there is ability in disability.
“He is a special child, he had won medals for us too in the previous edition in Greece,” he said.
NAN reports that the Ondo State Sports Council had praised Olowoniyi at a news conference held in his honour, on arrival from Los Angeles.
Olowoniyi had also won three gold medals during the first edition of the Games in Athens, Greece in 2011. (NAN)
