Lokoja – Organised labour in Kogi has declared support for the planned staff audit and screening of the state workforce by the government.
Mr Onuh Edoka, the state chairman of the NLC, made the statement on Wednesday in Lokoja during the third Triennial Delegates Conference of the state chapter of Trade Union Congress (TUC).
He declared that organised labour would support and cooperate with the Gov. Yahaya Bello-led administration to undertake the exercise in its bid to sanitise the workforce.
He said that congress had directed workers to make themselves available for the screening with relevant documents that might be required to establish the genuineness of their employment.
“The state government has made its intention known in the screening of workers; we are solidly behind the government.
“We will give the exercise the cooperation it deserves. We will thereafter sit with the government for discussions,” Edoka said.
In his address, the National President of the TUC, Mr Bobboi Kaigama, tasked the governor on good governance, saying there is no alternative to good governance.
Kaigama also urged the governor to prioritise the welfare of workers, adding that he should make life meaningful for the workers to boost productivity.
The TUC President, who was represented by Mr Kenneth Mokwenye, his Assistant General Secretary (Media), urged the governor to etch his name in gold by attracting positive development to the state.
He called for social partnership between the government and workers and stressed the need for the government to involve workers in its programmes.
