ABUJA (Sundiata Post) The tragedy of our public service is that aides (Chief of Staff, Ministers/Commissioners, Special Advisers, SSAs, SAs etc) ENJOY PERKS OF OFFICE and DISPENSE PATRONAGE MORE than the MAN/WOMAN THAT WAS ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE.
And that is why they are always at the fore-front of POWER RETENTION at all costs. They are ready to kill and maim to retain power and keep the patronage and access to the public till as long as is constitutional allowed. Even beyond.
The first thing they do is ‘IMPRISON’ the President/Governor and fence off anyone that will tell him or her the truth.
I have sat down with quite a number of leaders, especially elected ones. And their plans about how they want to change the society are always spot on. You cannot but agree they know what they want to do. But unfortunately, they deal with men and women who don’t share these ideas. Theirs is just to make money and dispense favours to family and friends.
The society too does not help matters. Why should we congratulate someone appointed a minister or commissioner? It is because we have expectations that are not LEGITIMATE. We expect them to use their offices to give us jobs (contracts) we don’t have the expertise to do. They too will surely do that because of the percentage they will make.
This has been the template of public service in Aso Rock, at least since 1999, and is replicated in all the 36 states.
Who will save this country?
Who will save our elected chief executives from these hawks and snakes called aides?
