Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sued Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola at the High Court in Osogbo, over the appointment of caretaker committees to manage the affairs of local governments.

The Nation recalls that the governor swore in 68 appointed local government caretaker committees in the local government areas, local council development areas, area councils and administrative offices on July 12.

PDP in suit number HOS/M139/21 dated October 12, obtained by The Nation yesterday, which joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State House of Assembly, Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, commissioner for Local Government and two others, said the appointment of the caretaker committees by Oyetola is unconstitutional and illegal.

The party asked Oyetola to constitute a valid administrative structure for local governments by conducting elections and setting aside appointments of the appointed caretaker management committees.

It demanded that “Governor Oyetola is duty-bound to conduct valid, free and fair elections into the offices of chairmen and councillors in 30 local governments in Osun State under Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and sections 3, 4 and 5 of Cap.72 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002, constitute valid administrative structures of the local government system as required by the constitution.

The suit signed by Mr. Alade Adebayo, joined by four other lawyers, demanded an order directing the 1st defendant (Governor Oyetola) to begin the process of conducting valid elections into local government councils and local council development areas.
