Masaka (Nasarawa State), – A 28-year-old phone repairer, Innocent Ali, was on Friday arraigned in a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Masaka, Nasarawa State, for allegedly intimidating a client.The defendant, who resides at Masaka, is being tried for criminal force and negligence of conduct, an offence he denied.The prosecutor, Asp Swem Frank, told the court that the complainant, Joseph Mbah reported the matter at the Masaka Police Station on Dec. 18.“The complainant alleged that in November, he gave the defendant his Infinix smart cell phone, valued at N52,000 for repair.“When the complainant went to collect his phone from the defendant, he discovered that the phone was no where to be found and the defendant could not give satisfactory account of the phone.“However, the complainant reported the defendant to the police, where he promised to pay, even if it is half the cost of the phone.“Unfortunately, the defendant did not fulfill his promise and when accosted by a friend and his pregnant wife, the defendant threatened to kill the wife if the complainant does not withdraw the case,” Frank said.The offence, Frank said, was contrary to and punishable under the Penal Code.The Magistrate, Yakubu Dangana, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 and a reliable surety in like sum who must be from level 15 in the civil service.He adjourned the case until Jan. 16 for hearing.
