LAGOS – The Police in Lagos on Friday arraigned two accused, Emmanuel Arowolo and Elizabeth Opaogun, both 52, before Mr P.E. Nwaka, at an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court for defrauding a land buyer of N410, 000.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Femi Adeleye, told the court that the accused, Arowolo, a motorcyclist and Opaogun, a trader, committed the offences on Oct. 30, 2013 at Iyana-Ipaja.
He said that the accused, who lives at the Akowonjo area of Lagos are facing charges of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining under false pretences.
Adeleye said the accused conspired together to obtain the sum of N410, 000 from one Mr Napoleon Idabor, under the pretext of selling a half plot of land to him at Ifo.
He said the accused deceived Idabor of the said amount, knowing fully well that they had no such land for sale.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them.
The accused could be jailed for 15 years, if found guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr Nwaka, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case till June 2, for mention. (NAN)
