Police arrest suspected car snatcher in Enugu

ENUGU – The Enug State Police Command said on Sunday that it had arrested a graduate of Agricultural Economics from Imo State, Chike Amucha, for allegedly snatching a car from an unsuspecting victim.
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebere Amaraizu, said the suspect was arrested in a restaurant in Benin, Edo State, after he had allegedly sold the stolen Toyota Camry car.
According to the statement, the suspect, a 27 year-old man snatched the car from its owner on June 16, when he went to open his house gate at Independence Layout.
The statement said the Amucha took the car to Owerri in Imo state where he sold it for N700, 000 before he moved to Benin.
He was arrested by the operatives on Nov 29, by the Anti-Kidnap Unit of the Enugu State Police Command, who had been on his trail.
It said the arrest however, led to the recovery of the stolen Toyota Camry, adding that he was now helping the police in their investigations.
The statement said the suspect regretted his actions, claiming that his involvement in crime was due to unemployment.
“I am ashamed of myself. I am still surprised about how police traced me to Edo state and arrested me.
“The youth should eschew all forms of crime and criminality and embrace good virtues and God will embrace them someday,’’ he said.(NAN)
