Lagos – The Lagos Airport Police Command on Thursday said it prosecuted 118 persons for committing various offences at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos in 2015.
The command spokesman, ASP Joseph Alabi, disclosed this while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
NAN reports that the suspects were charged to court for offences such as unlawful entry, touting and stealing.
Alabi said the command made 135 arrests within the period under review and was able to secure 70 convictions.
According to him, 51 cases are awaiting trial while 18 others are still under investigation.
He told NAN that security had been beefed up at the airport with the new arrangement of screening travellers and other airport users at the entrance of the terminal.
Alabi said the screening was being done by the Police Anti-Bomb Squad in collaboration with other security agencies.

According to him, the command has also deployed plain clothes operatives in strategic areas within the airport to ensure the safety and security of the place.
“The country is going through some security challenges. The Inspector-General of Police had to call all the commissioners of police to Abuja to map out strategy on how each command can man their area to forestall any untoward event.
“So when the Commissioner of Police, Mrs Victoria Menta, arrived here, she called a stakeholders meeting where it was unanimously agreed that each agency should deploy more of security operatives to the airport to ensure safety.
“We don’t want any ugly incident to occur here and that is what brought about these new security measures,” he said.
Alabi said travellers and other airport users had been given adequate sensitisation on the new security measures and called for their continuous cooperation. (NAN)
