BIRNIN KEBBI – Authorities at the Umaru Waziri Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, on Tuesday said the institution would expand the scope of its researches on energy sources.
Head of Renewable Energy Research Centre in the institution, Dr Sani Salihu, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi.
According to him, the energy sources on which researches will be expanded are solar, wind, biomass, hydro and thermal.
Salihu disclosed that researches on solar energy as alternative source of power had already been concluded by the centre.
He called on individuals, groups, organisations, small and medium scale industries to patronise the solar energy alternative, saying that it was affordable.
He said that solar energy had been under-utilised, adding that the institution would carry out enlightenment on its utilisation.
“The center has also begun research on wind, biomass, small hydro and geo-thermal energies, with focus on solar energy.
“Solar energy is an alternative to power supply from public source,” Salihu said.
He explained that installation of solar energy required only an inverter, solar battery and charger control, adding that it was cost-effective.
He called on stakeholders and Kebbi Government to take advantage of solar energy as “alternative and solution to the poor power supply in the country”. (NAN)
